Key messages from Viktar Babaryka

Independence of Belarus

The independence of the country is an absolute value and can not be negotiated.

blank

Two presidential terms

The alternation of power must be ensured by the Constitution.

blank

Separation of powers

A clear division of responsibilities into the distinct branches of the government: legislative, executive, and judicial. Creating the environment for more freedom of the “fourth estate” – the press.

blank

Building a strong economy

The current economic situation is the major threat to our independence.

blank

The President is a manager

A strong economy of the country needs to be the main priority. Top talent need to be involved in that, including people already working in the government who, unfortunately, have no opportunity to fulfill themselves and their ideas. It is important to review the incentive system for such state workers and tie their compensation to real economic outcomes.

blank

Small and medium-sized businesses are the driving force of the economy

The public ownership structure needs to be changed: only the economically successful enterprises and primary industries should stay under the government umbrella. Economic incentives need to be created to support and further develop small and medium-sized businesses.

blank

Education and healthcare deserve additional attention

Teachers at all levels largely contribute to the development of a person, a Belarusian citizen. Doctors are heroes who save lives. Both groups deserve a higher pay than what they currently get.

blank

The President should unite people

The goal of the President as a leader is to reconcile and unite the nation, to listen to people’s voices instead of simply pushing his/her own agenda.

blank

Belarus is full of remarkable people

I have absolutely no doubt about the great potential of our nation. For the last decades the only requirement was for us to be diligent. The time has come to encourage people to be proactive and realize their potential, relying on their strength and desires to improve their life and the country as a whole.
